Discover La Cité de la Mer

An unusual visit through the oceans

A unique complex dedicated to the deep sea and its conquest, La Cité de la Mer has already amazed more than 2 million visitors.

In 2002, La Cité de la Mer took up residence in the old Transatlantic Harbour Station, a prestigious Art Deco building. Its ambition was to show us the fantastic adventure of Man out to conquer the great depths, from its beginnings..to what remains to be discovered.

So La Cité de la Mer created a larger than life view - with an exhibition of deep sea diving subs exposed in the Welcome Hall, everything here is grandiose..In the Exhibition hall, permanent displays enlighten you on Ocean epics. A story though that is not complete without a visit of the emblematic submarine  the Redoutable.

Come and join Captain Glass, the now grounded seaman, for a virtual adventure with all the family as he takes you on a mission to discover submarine oases and creatures living 10,000 metres under the sea.

And if you are still hungry for excitement, come and stare with wonder into the depths of the Abyssal Aquarium, the deepest in Europe! Watch over a thousand fish swimming around before you in a stunning array of colours.

A vast programme, accessible to all

La Cité de la Mer's site is completely bilingual in French and English and aims to keep the information it contains alive, in constant evolution and accessible to all.
From families to young people, groups or disabled visitors, everyone can let themselves drift away in rapture towards the depths.
